About the event

This course gives an overview of the Supporting Pupils at School with Medical Conditions guidance issued by DFES/DOH in September 2014, which supersedes the Managing Medicines in Schools and Early Years Settings guidance 2005, which described the standards for medicines management in schools and early years settings.

It also gives an overview of the legal responsibilities that governing bodies have towards children with medical conditions at school. It includes the legal responsibilities for those administering medicines to children under 16 and an awareness of how these medications are administered.

It does not substitute training in how to give medication according to the child’s individual health care plan.

In addition the course also looks at the three most common medical conditions that children may have:

  • asthma
  • diabetes
  • epilepsy.

It details each of these medical conditions, the medication that the children may take to control them, and the appropriate first aid treatment in the event of an emergency. The Trainer: Heather,  Director of Training and still a hands-on trainer, is a registered nurse and has been teaching first aid for over 25 years.  She is passionate about equipping people with the essential skills to save lives in emergency situations. HTS are a recognised Training Centre for Qualsafe Awards, one of the Awarding Organisations regulated by Ofqual.
